(Directed By: Ester Martin Bergsmark; Sweden , Denmark, 2012, 72 mins, In Swedish with English subtitles)
Fri July 13, 9:30
The artistically adventurous and people of all genders and sexualities will appreciate this stunning film. SHE MALE SNAILS tells the story of a “Boy Hag” who finds himself caught between two genders and creates a third in order to survive. Initially a documentary about transgender artist-writer Eli Leven, SHE MALE SNAILS evolved over time into a gorgeous poetic fantasy with a hybrid structure and echoes of Derek Jarman.
At the 2012 Gothenburg Film Festival, the film won the Nordic Vision prize for its provocative visual style as well as the Audience Award.
